Getting started

FrostCam lives in the menu bar. After installing from the Mac App Store:

FrostCam doesn’t appear in my video app

This usually means the camera extension didn’t finish installing. Try this in order:

The virtual camera shows a black frame

FrostCam needs to be running for the virtual camera to produce frames. Check that the FrostCam icon is in your menu bar and the camera is started (the popover should say “Camera active”).

If FrostCam is running and you still see black: macOS may have revoked camera access. Check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and make sure FrostCam is enabled.

How do I remove the watermark?

Open the FrostCam menu bar popover and click Remove watermark — Pro $14.99. The purchase is one-time and uses your existing Apple ID. After purchase, the watermark disappears immediately and the camera source selector becomes available.

If you previously bought Pro on another Mac under the same Apple ID, click Restore Purchases in Settings.

What’s the difference between Pro and Pro+?

Functionally, nothing — both unlock the watermark and the camera source selector. Pro+ ($24.99) is a higher-priced tier for users who want to support indie development. There are no exclusive features behind Pro+.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com within 90 days of purchase, sign in with the Apple ID you bought with, and request a refund for FrostCam Pro or Pro+. Apple typically responds within 24–48 hours.

How do I uninstall FrostCam completely?

Drag FrostCam.app from your Applications folder to the Trash. Then open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Camera Extensions, click the (i) info icon next to “FrostCam Camera,” and choose Remove Extension. The camera will disappear from all video apps.

Does FrostCam work on macOS 12 or earlier?

No. FrostCam requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or later because it uses the Camera Extension framework, which Apple introduced in macOS 13.

Does it work on Apple Silicon and Intel?

Yes — FrostCam ships as a Universal Binary that runs natively on both architectures.
